Growth, Merger, or Succession: Quebec Tech CEOs Put Strategy First

Written by AQT | Jan 30, 2026 1:00:01 PM

Longueuil, January 30, 2026 – According to the latest AQT Barometer (2024), nearly half of CEOs in the technology sector plan to grow through acquisitions (48%), are considering a merger (47%), or say they are open to selling their business if a competitive offer materializes (45%).

These findings confirm the importance of being well prepared for the structuring decisions that mark a company’s growth, merger, or succession journey.

To support leaders in navigating these strategic choices, AQT is launching The Pillars of a Merge & Acquisition Transaction, a training program designed by and for CEOs of Quebec tech SMEs. This program combines the expertise of seasoned practitioners with real-life testimonials to demystify the M&A process and provide executives with a structured and manageable process before decisions become urgent.

After a slowdown in transactions in 2023–24 and a rebound in 2025, experts expect a return to deal activity in 2026, supported by favorable financing conditions and strong momentum around AI and digital transformation.

“In a merger or acquisition transaction, value isn’t determined by price alone — it depends above all on the company’s level of preparation. What is structured — or not — when the opportunity arises often makes all the difference,” emphasizes Paul-André Jouzel, Co-founder at Alvora Partners.

“Transactions that involve the future of a company are among the most significant decisions entrepreneurs must make,” says Nicole Martel, CEO of AQT. “Given that nearly 50% of Quebec’s tech companies are likely to change hands in the coming years, we aim to offer programming that brings greater predictability to the overall process,” she adds.

Limited to a cohort of 8 to 12 CEOs, the Winter 2026 program will consist of four sessions held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • Session 1 — Strategy & Reflection (February 11)

Business sustainability: how to prepare your company for what’s next?

  • Session 2 — Valuation & Negotiation (February 25)

How to avoid costly structural mistakes (clauses, adjustment mechanisms, conditions)?

  • Session 3 — Due Diligence (March 11)

What a “tech” due diligence process looks like when it truly protects value (IP, revenue, customers, talent, risks)?

  • Session 4 — Post-Transaction Integration (March 25)

How to succeed at integration — where value is created… or lost?
