Founder of CGI and Executive Chairman of the Board
Serge Godin founded CGI in 1976. Today, CGI is one of the world’s largest independent IT and management consulting firms. Serge Godin led CGI as President and CEO since its inception and became Executive Chairman of the Board in 2006. He is also the controlling shareholder.
Under his leadership, the company has grown both through internal growth and over 105 acquisitions, expanding from 2 consultants in 1976 to 90,000 today. CGI is known for successfully integrating its consulting services into its business model by leveraging its proprietary management frameworks, which promote operational excellence.
CGI currently operates in over 400 metropolitan markets across 40 countries worldwide. The company helps its clients achieve digital transformation through a comprehensive range of services: management and IT strategy consulting, systems integration, IT and business process management services, and intellectual property solutions.
Serge Godin is an Officer of the Order of Canada and the National Order of Quebec. In 2008, he was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame and received the “Lifetime Achievement in Entrepreneurship” award from the Canadian Youth Business Foundation. In 2011, he was honored with the title of Honorary Fellow by the Conference Board of Canada. In 2015, Serge Godin became a lifetime member of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans as a Canadian citizen.
He has received several honorary doctorates, including from Concordia University in Montreal (Law), Laval University in Quebec City (Administrative Sciences), Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) affiliated with the University of Montreal, York University in Toronto (Law), ÉTS (École de Technologie Supérieure) in Montreal, and Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University (Law). Mr. Godin completed his college studies (DEC) at Cégep de Jonquière in Computer Science. After obtaining equivalency to a bachelor’s degree in administration, he took courses as part of the MBA program at Laval University in Quebec.
Serge Godin has always been deeply involved in charitable work. In 2000, he established the Fondation Famille Godin, which aims to alleviate poverty, improve health, and advance education for disadvantaged children and adolescents. Since its inception, the Foundation has supported over 400 schools, hospitals, and youth organizations.
